The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) announced on May 7 the results of the election for its new Athletes’ Commission, with Chinese Olympic champion Liu Shiwen among the 10 members elected.
The ITTF confirmed that the election concluded on May 4, with over 300 able-bodied athlete representatives casting their votes. To ensure geographical and gender balance, eight able-bodied athletes were elected to the new commission. Besides the two current co-chairs, Liu Shiwen and India’s Achanta Sharath Kamal, the newly elected members include representatives from Wales, Ghana, England, Algeria, Ecuador, and Romania.
Additionally, the Athletes’ Commission also includes two Para-athlete representatives from England and the United States.
The election for the new chairperson of the Athletes’ Commission will be held at a later date.
